Everyone needs a little inspiration now and again. This is my scrap gatherings of my art trips, reading and anything that just makes me go Wow!
I took an out of date journal for recycling and added some titles that I like to the front. I read them every time I am adding another scrap and they give me pause for a smile.
This journal is also used for me to write what is want from art, business, dream studio materials, etc. I started out writing my aspirations, then gluing in pieces from sales brochures of equipment, drawing a dream studio layout and then it hit me that this journal could become so much more.
This is my dream studio and local artist pages.
I added the newspaper article from when Margaret Olly died and every article that followed. I even went to the Sydney Gallery to see some of her artwork hung up in honour of her life and stuck those in here too.
Then every week I watched the Arts section of the paper to see what exhibition were coming out or articles on an artist in the area and put which ever one took my fancy.
When the Pre-Raphaelite exhibition came to town I added information about the exhibit, my thoughts on what I seen there and my ticket.
The important part is writing down your impressions of what you seen there and any research you did on the artist before or after. Oh sketches would be nice if you studied while there too. This way when you go back to look at this section you can remember what was learned.
For the Picasso exhibition I also added some postcards that I purchased of particular pieces that interested me. This exhibition surprised me, I was never a big fan of his work until I seen it in person. It made me appreciate much more of the technique than before.
Every studio that you stop in get their business brochure or a postcard. Whenever I go to the library in Redcliffe I stop in the gallery across from it to check out their latest show.
Gather anything that draws your interest so you can go back to your scrap to find inspiration. We cannot always get out and visit or relax to recharge. At least with this journal we can recharge by the memories when another option is not available.
